Why you'd want to install win95 on a 486? I don't know. Maybe run win95 programs and games as well as DOS games?
Exactly. Dual Boot here to save the day, and many, many games will work without problems on such a system. Some oldies require Windows, you know, and might refuse to work on newer versions.

Apart from that, it's easy to find decent 95-operating versions of packer/unpacker programs, so that the access to packed archives is far easier.
You don't even need dual boot for Win95. Dos included with 95 is very compatible with 6.22. All you need is to know what are you doing and to find correct drivers, and install them right way.

This weekend I planned to load Win95 on one of mine old computers (P90 or P133), and experiment with some old games that I was not able to play because of speed related problems.

But we talk about dos-games, don't we?
I'd run a ms-dos or freedos with win311 and a linux an that system. Or ... no I wouldn't. I'd only install a linux or bsd on that system and use it as a server. For DOS-Games I've got DOSBox, which runs ... AMD Athlon 64 3200+ ... as fast as I need

Try windows 3.11 window for workgroups why you may ask uses more disk space than 3.1 or 3.11 also windows for works groups has versions 3.1 and 3.11 windows 3.1 has an update to upgrade to 3.11 it is free by the way with win zip 16bit or win32 to run winzip 32bit that would be fine also gather ms-dos 6.22 windows 3.1 or windows for workgroups 3.11 a mouse driver for dos and blank the hard disk and reinstall everything
issed: o by the way thats your data getting a ngry about being deleted but do not worry reformat and reinstall everything will not hjurt and will save disk space because over time crap builds up on you harddisk like my friends comapq deskpro 2000 133mhz had been running oaky until last year when it went to slow reformat did the trick

Trust me, folks, you'll enjoy the experience a LOT more this way than if you are using an emulator like DOSBox. Not to knock DOSBox, its great for those who don't have the ability to play DOS games the way they were meant to be played, but if you play the games on a dedicated machine and then compare to DOSBox, you'll definitely realize what I am talking about. :Tom:
Amen to that brother

as i understand it, you are using dos, right?!
okay then check for
*-incorrect sound setting
-insufficient memory

check for memory using the "mem" at the command prompt. You should have something like 560K to run the game

*NOTE: if lemmings does not support any sound output rather than the PC speaker then ignore this.
