It will fry your RAM chip making it useless, and if you're not careful you could complete destroy your motherboard.

I advise reading up on static electricity and what you can do to prevent it, I know you can buy wrist bands and stuff that dramatically reduce the chance of messing your motherboard up. Look around at different PC mod sites before you just rip everything open.

Dear troop, don't be scared!

The problem is not that you could be electrocuted, but that you could "electrocute" your PC if you are static charged...

And your pc would -not- be amused. Heck, my dad has a floormat and a table mat at home which ground everything... no static for his computer o.O

My PC must be immune to this, cause I've seen this done before. Heck, I've even pulled out a stick and put it back in and it was a snap. I don't get it... I'm not afraid of anything, just curious and cautious. I'm planning to go and get the new stick tommorow. I've went there before, but the price was higher and they didn't have one on the go, so if I don't get this one, should I go for a 1GB DUAL (Geil 512RAMx2)???
I wonder how the pc would react to this:
1GB DUAL + 1 256RAM DUAL. Hmm...

Well if I do manage to fry it and f*ck up everything I've got - you won't get an answer for a long time.
Here's what I need:
1) Someone to reccomend me either the 1024mb or DUAL 1GB cards.
2) A "proper" installing procedure (hey, you lead me to this... ).
3) Other opinions for or against either of the two as in stated point no. 1.

Running out of time (it's 00:37). Tommorow it all comes to an end.

basically, static shock is this: The computer dosn't electrocute you, YOU electrocute the computer. This fries the circuits killing the components. Best thing to do, is work on a carpetless area, with no sweater on. Also before you start, touch a metal grounded object, like a fridge or your power supply to ground yourself, and remove and static electricity.

After you ground youself, look at the slot. DDR slots have a little nick to one side of the slot so you don't put it in backwards. Alighn the two nicks, and press down untill the two levers on both sides of the slot click in. The problem is, sometiems you have to exert more force, and it can scare you into thinking you are pushing too hard.

I know you will all hate me for these constant interuptions and indecissiveness (how do I spell that? :eeeeeh: ). But...
NEW PLAN:

I think I'm gonna get a 512RAM just for a few reasons:
1) 1024 isn't really that necessary if I am planning to get a new PC next year , is it?
2) It costs a tad much and I don't think I need that much.
3) Just think of all the muck I can get with the loose change out of all this.
(i.e. a webcam and other stuff - i.e. upcoming games and stuff).

Last question:

It wouldn't matter if I got a non-dual 512 stick and put it in my PC, would it? The interface on it would still be 128bit, right?

P.S. I should've done this sooner, but f*ck it - it's gonna be today anyway (I hope  )...
