Well, as Tom too seems not to know it, I'll post it here. Well, it should be pretty known. Anyway, here's the story.
Around 40.000 years ago, during one of the ice ages, the small waterstreet between Asia and America called Bering-street was frozen over, allowing the people from Asia to cross it and to reach America. Therefore it's officially stated that the Natives of America are the successors of the Asian people that drifted in the Far East during that ice age.

The reason they were orginally called indians is because when Columbus found America he thought he'd reached India (because he didn't know about America) so he called them West Indians.

Not at all. I live in America, mind you.

Don't wanna spoil your fun, but official history only begins with the discovery of writting. Before that you have the pre-historic. But the theory of Indians being Asians is very likely anyway, although it could also be possible for them to have crossed from Asia into the Americas in some other way than up north. But that would include the Orange-peal theory developed by Einstein, which many scientist still believe to be a fary tale!

Or they could be remnants of the great Atlantean Empire too... But there's no evidence of such theories anyway. <_<

Well the orange-skin theory might actually answer that one.
It goes something like that:
The hard crust of the Earth is like the peal of an orasnge, and as the core cools down it shrinks (when things are cold they have a smaller volume than when they are hot). The core is cooling down (but very, very slowly). So at some point before the ice age the crust and the core were not in the perfect sync (they werent turning at the same speed), do to the loss of the core volume and the weight of the polar ice caps. So the crust tilted (that's what Einstein really tried to prove in his latter years). Before this tilt the continent of Antarctica was not in the polar region, but at a region with the climate similar to the one in Australia today. But almost over night this changed.
They say that only such a dramatic change could cause the mamoth in sibera to freeze at such speed, that it would not devour the leaves it had in the stomach. They even say, that this could explain some maps, where not onlay the continent of antarctica is seen, but it's shown as two islands (which people only discovered to be true after taking satelite infrared photos of the Earth). So if pre-ice age Antarctica was Atlantis, it did not sink, but froze. And the survivors would go to Asia and South America (and firs Indian civilizations did evolve on the continent of South America).

Well, I guess it's well know today that Antarctica was not a frozen continent many milleniums or perhaps even many millions of years ago, but instead an equatorial zone and was well populated. Than some gigantic accident caused the earth to change it's position equally to the sun so Antarctica froze very fast over. And it might really be that it once was the fabled Atlantis... But there's simply no evidence of it. And who knows why there isn't any...
