They finished the whole damn thing.
They should have a copy lying around somewhere in their offices. You just don't throw away a finished product.

Of course they cancelled it!
It was an adventure game! No one wanted to publish 2D-adventure game anymore back then. It was all about 3D.... |

well, that depends, didnt monkey island 3 came out that year, or the year before???
But anyway i alwyas loved adventure-games, and i think that 3d-adventures for the most part arent as good as good old fashion 2d-adventuregames (SCUMM games).... but i think that grim fandango was a good 3d-adventure games, but all the others were bad, i think. i dont think that the adventure games of later years had the same,,,, let us say, attraction as those from the 80ties and early 90ties..... they werent as thoroughly made, i think.............. all in all i am talking in cicles, it is a shame the game was never released, Blizzard could at least show us the video-clips they made for the game,,, but it isnt smart being so sad about it, we have to look forward. :Tom: |

I believe myself 3D is way better than 2D.
I can't remember how many hours I spent in Wind Waker or Morrowind just relaxing and looking back at the sights, now that's fun. But they didn't cancel it because it was 2D, they cancelled it because it was right around the release of Curse of Monkey Island, their game didn't look as good, and didn't play as good, so instead of ruining their perfect track record, Blizzard cancelled Lord Of the Clans. I don't really agree that "All 3D adventure games are bad". As mentioned, Grim Fandango was good, but what about Sanitarium? That wasn't 2D it was pre-rendered 3D :P We had Syberia one and two, there was The Longest Journey, Myst series, Dark Fall and its sequel. There are lots of good 3D adventure games. But I just wanted to play Lord of the Clans.

im still hoping some blizzard-employer stole a copy of the game, and that it is out there, that could be cool. Or if there were a BETA-Version..................
but that will probably never happen Blizzard could at least show us all those video-clip, which they made for the game, |

There's better than a Beta version.
There's a completed but not properly published version of it. Meaning it's a disk that has the full game on it, markered with the game's name on the front. Just like when I got a Diablo II original disk of E-Bay, the version they play before release (near finished products, post-beta stage) are just plain CDs with markered names on them. They probably have kept a few, they wouldn't throw them out. They didn't finish all the puzzles/areas though, there were about 1 or 2 left to do at the end of development, it was about 95% complete. Shame they won't release what they had managed to complete.

ok............ niece to hear.
Well it is true. ..... i my self (that is my bigger brother) got his hands on the Beta-version of Warcraft III,,, not legal. but whatever. it was cool. it look a lot like the finished produkt, exept that a lot of the units were a litttle different here and there, and the buildings (especially night elf) were different........ though the finished produkt were a great improvement of the Beta. That is why i beleive that there must be a Beta... or something lieng somwhere out there Remember the X-Files The Truth Is Out There but i woul really like to see just a poition of the game,,,,,, but i dont think it is wise to yern so much toward things in the past, that may never come to pass.... or some well-fomulated sentence |
