Awesome game. I've always loved not being tied to the floor. The thief bot is my personal nemesis, but I love jamming it into a corner and pummeling it with a big gun (preferably the helix cannon). I actually liked Vertigo the most because of its insane level design, and the fact that it 'did what it said on the can' - induced some serious vertigo in places (even in D2X-XL).
BTW, I know this might be a bit old but - Scatty, screenshot #4 is from D2 - that robot is the TRN Racer (D2 only) firing fireballs of which the sprites are only in D2 and the texture over the robot generator (that purple bit for those who haven't played Descent) and the metallic floor texture is from D2 (and if I'm not mistaken, I think that level is from Vertigo). Sorry, but being the Descent junkie I am, I had to set that right. |

Don't worry, from that angle it's a pretty easy mistake to make. After all, the rock textures _are_ from D1, so go figure.

D1 and D2 were really great games.
For anyone wanting to play D1, the shareware is always available for free and easily found with Google. It contains the first 7 levels of the game, ending with a big boss; there's hours worth of gameplay in just the shareware version! |

That boss always annoyed me. I always found it far harder than the last boss, because if it missed, the damn plasma from its missiles would come back as a faster pace. In the end I sniped it from the doorway with my lasers.

The first boss isn't difficult if you keep accelerate and the key for sliding left or right pressed all the time. This way you can fly faster than the smart missiles.

Yeah, I found that out with the advent of D2X and a mouse control system with good sensitivity.
