i would guess you are looking for starkiller sheridan of the earth alliance and later of the interstellar alliance. also not only does this game rock but so does this site, i grabbed covert action earlier, now i have mega traveller 1, so many memories, been playing both games on and off for about ten years, if you add mega traveller 2 add a manual too, i loved that game but simply didn't know how to fly the goddam ship.

I still have the original MT 1 and 2 games myself, on good old 5.25" floppy disks (which my computers no longer can use, LOL). Never did finish the second one, but since it's available at HOTU I think I'll d/l it and give it a try...
There is one thing you'll probably want to do if you play either game, and that's crank your CPU cycles 'way down. Your team will be attacked as soon as they're off the ship in almost every space port you enter, and you need to stop and split everyone up to return fire (with the 'p' key) fast. (The 'p' key is actually the party access key, but it also automatically pauses the game). In fact, IIRC, you begin MT 1 with an immediate shoot-out in a bar, so remember that this game was designed to run on a 386 and set your cycles accordingly! There are a couple of ways to make big bucks fast without murdering party members. One is to hit the casino and save/restore a lot. Another is to stock up on vacc suits and take a passenger liner (middle passage, NOT low passage) to one of the nearby low-level tech planets (see the docs for tech levels). The markup on a good vacc suit is huge, and you won't risk running into pirates (who will toast your ship until you get a lot of expensive upgrades) if you fly commercial. The team can carry quite a few vacc suits in inventory: sell them off, return to base, and rinse and repeat. Once you have a ship that can survive interstellar travel without getting reduced to rivets, the abso-damn-lute best cargo run you can make is water from Efate to Louzy. After fuelling costs, the return is in the neighborhood of 36:1. (Yes, I still have my old notes to the game. I never throw anything out) -- Mal |

This should probably be a separate topic, but I wasn't allowed to start one, sooo...
I can't buy fuel. Whenever I go to a starport and try to buy fuel, a screen will appear that looks as if I'm supposed to be getting fuel, and then nothing. I've tried clicking on everything there is on the screen. There are no options available on this screen. I've tried rearranging my character positions aboard the ship - everything I can think of. It doesn't matter if I try to have a character pay for fuel, or the party account. I'm sure I must be doing something very basic wrong, but I can't find a clue in the manual as to what it might be. So basically I can take off, zip to another system, and that's it. Not much "mega" in that kind of traveling. So if anyone can tell me what I might be doing wrong, it would surely be appreciated. --M |

I cannot figure out land combat, namely how the order function works.
Can anyone help me with this? |

I have the boxed version of this, inside is a little yellow piece of paper with an advert for the strategy guide/tip book hahaha Wow...did anyone ever buy that?
I like this game a lot but find it impossible without a journal, I do wish I knew a little more about it though, there's not much info on what skills do what, and I still don't know if it's better to have an extra point in sword or an extra point in strength. I had a very strange bug with it once upon a time, it replaced everything in my inventory with these weird items, they were like graphical vomit (if you know what I mean) and worth an absolute fortune! I mean trillions of credits. Sadly this overwrote the 3 items you get at the beginning potentially making it unwinable, but it was fun walking about in battle dresses and having a super space ship. At some point I'm going to sit down and beat it! It's one of those games that I need to play in the day time rather than at 3am and with a journal! |
