Return of the Phantom help (n00b)
Hi all,
I stumbled across here and found many games from back when I was a youngin. But I need a little help. I can play Return of the Phantom with no troubles except that the speech of the characters does not play. Any ideas on why this is so? Also, anyone know how I can fix this? |

Some games were produced in two versions: CD with full speech (often referred to as "talkie") and floppy with none (or very limited) speech.
Are you sure the version you are trying to run is a talkie? If yes, are you sure you configured the sound correctly in the game's setup? |

Judging by the file size, it doesn't look like a talkie.

The version on AB is the floppy version with no speech. It still has some music and sound effects though. :amused:

I downloaded the game listed on this site. If it isn't the full 'talkie' version then I can live with that. Although when I go into the options menu there is a button to toggle speech on/off. Also, another problem I seem to have found, when I save a game and come back to play it again, it is not listed under my saved games.

There is a button to toggle speech on\off in options menu, but there is still no speech in the game. I know this cos I supplied this game to AB.
Can't explain the save game bit though. |

I have had a couple games give me that save game problem. Both times it had to do with the directory that I had mounted the C: drive to. Some games expect a very specific absolute path name for the save game folder. I can't tell you what yours should be but try experimenting with the mounting and see if it helps. It is not advisable to mount the C drive directly to the game folder. Setting up a structure like C:\games\phantom and then mounting C to c:\games is better.
