It has started about a month. Every time I try to play a game (from Lost Vikings to Dawn of war) the game at seemingly random times starts to slow down tragically for about 10-20secs and then it goes normally again for a period of time till it happens once more and the circle continues. This has nothing to do with the game. It happens to all the games I try to play, whether I am playing at the time or not( Yes, I tried that too. Leaving the Realms of Arkania still for 3 minutes the animations it had(fires mostly) started to flick too). I tried formatting, reinstalling and repairing Windows and drivers to no avail. Could anyone please help me find out what is wrong?

What software you have running in the background? Virus scanners, P2P software and their ilk should not be running when you want to play the game - otherwise, the system performance will be impaired and subsequently you will experience what you describe.

Also, the same thing might be caused by the "throttling" feature most modern CPU's have to prevent overheating - if your CPU overheats, it is likely that it will start throttling. You might want to clean out the radiators and fans.

I rather think it could be that extra software that slows down your CPU performance in relation to the battery status. When the battery status reaches a certain level the CPU is clocked down for making the battery last longer.
You can adjust that by your power management software.

You should set either close to or to max in all battery states keep in mind that on max it will drain the battery quicker. Som you may just chnage it while you play the game.
