Well. Here in Croatia some people have weekend cottages ashore some in villages. Those from the first group are occasional fishermen, but rarely. Those who have houses in villages plant different vegetables, mostly for recreation. Most often they plant tomatoes, cucumbers...., and those more ambitious
plant aubergines, courgettes....
So, it's pretty the same here.
