Mamma mia...
Well, this is good news for RPG yoga.
I envy you.

Only Baldur's Gate 2 have bigger worlds than M&M I think. In terms of pure unique content. But you already finished it, I think?

Strange..MHO is
the first game is so-so,
second is better,
next is the best
and then rest is crap..
for example
Arena 1994, Daggerfall 1996, Morrowind 2002, Oblivion, Skyrim 2011 of Bethesda.
It's so only if company exactly knows what they are doing, and can improve it's achievements. In that case streak will continue, until company will run out of ideas, or going to totally alienated environment.

For example, Wizardry followed exactly the same theme and mechanic all 8 games. Gradually increasing complexity. And each next game was better than previous, until the very end.

Civilization, just opposite, did it only once, with Civ2 (and 2 is definitely better than 1). 3, 4 and 5 all are different from each other and 1-2. And quality is very non-linear for me. 3 is too agressive, so unplayable. 4 is unique with fight rules and strange with global aspect, so worst part of them all for me. 5 is closer to 1 than 3-4, so better for me... but AI is totally stupid, and game is not very ironed. I hope for more linear development in 6.

Heroes of Might and Magic and, say, Warhammer 40 000: Dawn of War tried to do "more of the same" approach: each next game in series is mostly the same as previous. And it became worse and worse.

And Master of Orion and Space Empires both made opposite mistake, as for me - after MoO2 and SE4 they went to totally different game mechanics, and it killed franchise.

There are lot of such examples here and there, and I doubt that you can make any hard rule from it.
