Games have taken up many days of our recreational time and I would guess that a good chunk of that is repeating a portion of the game because you were killed.

Is that not just slowing the game if you have to go back to a save point?
Is there any real meaning to it?
Is it really needed in a game?
After all there is a save game option which is used to recover the 'body' in pristine condition. Would it be more realistic to have a death (in single player games) mean the character is dead just like in Diablo 2 for the hard-core characters?
