It's a matter of personal opinion.
The three major browsers at the moments are IE, Firefox, and Opera.
There's no harm in installing all three of them and try them for a while.

If you're looking for speed then you should choose opera, since it's the fastest.

I think you mean thunderbird, not firebird (firebird was firefox's old name, it's also a database)
And if I remember correctly, there is such an option.
