I'd say it's a good idea, even though it probably won't stop people from posting the same questions all over again. Quite a few people are somewhat reluctant to read anything which has 'rules', 'instructions' or 'FAQ' written on it.
Having said that, if you still need people, I'd offer to help either with the FAQ themselves or with the proofreading.
