Microblogging does not equal social networking. To use microblogging efficiently, you need to already have friends. Of course, you can meet and get to know other people by subscribing to their feeds, like you would with a regular blog, but the idea itself has nothing to do with making friends. It's like telling people who read a newspaper or magazine to go out and make friends in the real world.
