To get gas, you loot, it is easier to find in bigger cities and also easier to find in areas like texas, where oil wells and such are in real life.
It's not a good practice to leave town with just a single car with gas, really you need some buses or trucks to operate as a tanker, because gas stations on the open road are a lot of times, not available or empty.
Carefully monitor how much gas you need crossed with how far you need to go, especially if you are going to or near a zombie city. definitely bad to be stuck there.l
