For everyone who has problems with the sound in this game, download and install VDMSound here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/ after having installed it, find Dune2.exe in windows explorer, right mouse click on it and select "run with VDMSound". You will now hear all the sounds and music and it never hangs.
