ok then the other option is to make that stale unsold intellectual property commercially available even if only through their own website ie similar to the apple itunes pay for download legal copies of music files for $1 a peiece for ipods

Games companies with very old titles could make say each game $1 a peice you could pay $5 payment and get 5 old titles in return with a download link specific to each buyer - it would be valid for 1 week only.

That way they would still be selling the game and could justify protecting their Intellectual property - quite a few smaller game producers actually distribute their games this way esp shareware companies when players register to get the full version they pay their $10 or so and get a link via email to download the full version game

On this specific issue what is stopping the companies from doing this.

I agree illegal warez is wrong -

But if the companies in question and there are many have stopped supporting their product and remain intent on protecting it from illegal distribtuion - perhaps those wanting to buy the game and cant shoudl email them and ask for this legal payable download option for early titles ?
