As it's a text adventure, another way of dealing with the save problem is to get it as a D64 file for the Commodore 64 and run it in a C64 emulator. Full screen it looks identical and you can save the game in the regular C64 (slow) way or by using the easier "snapshot" option that emulators provide.
Had the game 20 years ago on C64 disk. Never realised I would end up working and living in New York 15 years later (Well, for 2 years anyway!)! I'm now playing the game again and the immersion is total!
