Default Legacy of the Ancients overview

No, nothing to do with HP Lovecraft. But it was probably the first RPG I was able to play through, on the C64. I liked the level-up based on real-time albeit primitive combat, and I learned the dark art <g> of saving before gambling, betting all, then saving or rebooting depending on my luck. Made sheeploads of gold that way. Besides, if you win more than three times in a row in the casino, the town guards come after you and you have to fight your way out or get totally rolled of your cash. Vegas house rules I guess.
The lineage of this series begins with Questron 1 and Questron 2 both by SSI (then mostly into wargames like the bombing sim 50 Mission Crush), very similar, with just more primitive graphics. The team later produced Legacy of the Ancients followed by the similar Legend of Blacksilver (which I've never played).
The other point about this: In those days, the manuals and magazines advised using graph paper to map your way in the dungeons. But I always started in the wrong spot and that totally turned me off RPG's. But with the five of this series, I learned to use a Scrabble board (it fit perfectly) to mark the paces, coins to mark the ladders, pits, and treasure. Then I'd transfer each level from the board to actual graph paper.
