Well, if it is designed for Win95/98 you can always try compatibility mode.
Another option would to be to use neither DosBox nor compatibility, but to try
VDMSound. It's pretty straightforward. Install it and then try to run the game by right-clicking the EXE and then choosing "Run with VDMSound.
