1:
Copy the dosbox-0.73 folder on your USB key.
2:
Create a \oldgames\ folder to use as virtual C: in dosbox:
3:
Go to the dosbox folder
on the USB key and double click on
dosbox.exe (Do NOT run dosbox from your dosbox shortcut, if you have that, but
from the USB key)-
4:
-(
If you have dosbox installed on your PC with an automount in your [autoexec] it will mount that one, simply ignore that)-
Now you need a dosbox.conf on your USB dosbox, you create that by inputting:
config -writeconf dosbox.conf
This will create a new dosbox.conf file in your dosbox folder on your USB key, it will NOT interfere with whatever you have on your PC.
->Once again, I repeat:
Go to the dosbox folder
on the USB key and double click on
dosbox.exe (Do NOT run dosbox from your dosbox shortcut, if you have that, but
from the USB key)-
You will see this dosbox.conf file on your USB dosbox folder:
5:
Double click on the dosbox.conf file
in the dosbox folder on your USB key and open with notepad, scroll the whole way down and add under [autoexec]:
[autoexec]
mount c \oldgames\
c:
This will automount the \oldgames\ folder
on your USB key when running dosbox.exe from the USB key dosbox folder. And only then.
6:Test on another compy with Vista (no dosbox installed):
Test compys:
Several XP/Vista 32 and 64 bit.
With and without dosbox installed on them.
Also tested with an extenal 1.5TB harddisk, same principle, works flawless, USB or network drives.
Nothing is written/stored on the host PC, so you can play your games@work from the USB key if you want, even if you should do some work@work, isn't it?
Your save games will be stored on the USB key, so you can carry them around.
