Roddenberry is dead.
Jame Doohan (Scotty) is dead.
Brent Spiner can no longer resembles Data enough to play him (the problems of an actor playing a character that does not age).
The other actors from the original series are all old.

The writing has gone stale.

Enterprise gave us a glimpse of what any other Star Trek would be. Without an ensemble cast and some continuity (McCoy's cameo in the TNG pilot was important to establish that TNG carried on from TOS), it will be nothing more than people wearing starfleet uniforms in a story that Roddenberry did not write.

Much as Paramount would like to apply the Star Trek logo to turn something into gold, I believe that Star Trek has run its course.

What we need is something new, but Hollywood has gotten afraid of untried things.
