A plugin may crash and cause the browser to crash without the latter being necessarily to blame.

It's very possible to experience differences in IE and others, as they all use the same Netscape plugin platform, except for IE which doesn't support it and uses its own ActiveX (COM) plugins. Of course all this is considered legacy now with HTML5 (and possibly .NET Silverlight in IE).
