Yes, and I think it was an engine limitation, because when making games with Unlimited Adventures, you had to resort to the same system, because the text box could only store so much text, and there was a limit of text box event you could chain or use at each location, if I remember correctly (it has been a long time ago )

Of course! The old-style manuals, with the background, the story, and all the extraneous things in them to get you in the mood of the game, or just to broaden the experience... they don't do it anymore...
