This is the kind of strategy/RPG title I really like: apparently open-ended, though there's a goal (of sorts) and a lot of smaller missions along the way. Combat was frustrating, as I recall, with the keyboard not responding fast enough to input. However, that was years ago, when the title first appeared. I'll probably try it again, now that you've got it available. I remember being entertained by the personalities of the different space races you encountered, and the variety of tasks available.

It was published by Gametek, a company that grew rapidly and (after a short introductory period) didn't provide reviewers with product. I was told once by one of their PR reps that they only needed advertising in the magazines and branding to get sales. Their problem was that they entered the game field suddenly, so they didn't have branding, and their games were too uneven (all made by outside developers) to generate huge sales by ads, alone. They imploded soon after. It wasn't a great loss, because they never gave an impression of being more than a corporation making money off game sales: a sort of precursor to today's mega-super-giant-uber-gaming companies who care far less about innovation and quality than fluctuations in the their stock on world exchanges.
