This is one of the best games of all time, a friend and I played this to death back in the day. Eye of the Beholder was rubbish by comparison. Better graphics, much better in fact, but it is the gameplay that matters. Things like spellcasting, I love the way DM makes you cast spells by learning the sequence of glyphs you need to press. Press the wrong one because you forgot the sequence, or because you were distracted by mummies trying to cave your head in, and the spell would be miscast and mana wasted. EotB had you just click the spellbook and cast it automatically, DM makes you practise the spells. Do you go for the level 3 spell that you have a 90% chance of casting? Or do you risk the level 4 spell that you have only a 50% chance of casting? Darkness plays a part as well, the dungeon isn't conveniently lit up for you. The torch is burning low, do you cast a light spell or gamble on a fireball to finish off the worm in front of you?

This game is the daddy of its genre, and it still holds up well now. Best played on the Amiga version downloadable from the fansite that was linked to earlier in this thread, but do play it.
