I had a 1MB PCI SVGA card running 640x480x24 just fine, and the machine I am currently connecting to the forums with has an 8MB PCI SVGA card (Ati Rage XL, to be exact) running 1024x768x32 without any problems. Neither card has any 3D acceleration features.
