Also make sure you're using a proper session burning app like Nero. Packet-writing software like InCD or DirectCD (where you just treat the CD as a floppy disk) won't produce CDs you can read in DOS.

I do still have a working Atari 2600 and about 15 games stuck in a cupboard...

No, Weta is right -- the last mission in episode 3 is mission 19. If you hack a saved game to be at mission 20 the game won't run anything when you select Next Mission.
