Some time ago when I was collecting info on overclocking the 486 and 586 class machines (nearly two years ago), I stumbled upon a mention of some module that allowed the user to install several memory modules into a single SIMM slot.
Only a mention, though. Now I'm looking for more info on it and cannot find any. Have you ever heard of something like that? |
I'm still working on machines that use SIMM memory.
Never heard of something like that. That doesn't mean that there's no such device. I'll look for it. :ok: |
Yes, I have heard of these multiple SIMM extensions. They seemed to be quite popular (for that read advertised heavily) at the time when late 486's and early Pentiums were sold with 4 Mb SIMMs. After a couple of upgrades, replacing 4 Mb SIMMs with 32 Mb SIMMs, these products supposedly provided a way to make use of your spare 4 Mb SIMMs, e.g., stack 4 of them in a single SIMM slot.
However, they didn't always work; it seemed to depend on your mainboard chipset and BIOS. They rapidly fell out of favour. You might find some in on-line auction houses but don't pay much for them as they may not work. |
Hey I never saw this topic. I had amate who wnated one got one and it was cruddy as.
|
I remember these too. They were a bit expensive, but still cheaper than buying new memory. Don't remember names though or where you could possibly find one to buy now.
