Perhaps its a misunderstanding between Serial and Parallel IDE cables?

If you can afford it you should seriously get another laptop. You can buy a new or second hand old laptop (PII/PIII) for like 150-250 GBP easily.

If not, then you might want to ask the guy that sold you the cable to plug it in him/herself.

There are HDD adaptors for mounting notebook HDD's into PC. If you can find one that works the other way round, it might _just_ work.

I've had a laptop and ditched it after a month... didn't do me any good and was hard to keep up to date with everything. Went back to a tower and a nice LCD screen... that's better and at least you know that you built it :)

Well wade sun, get over this 386 crap. Period.

Sure use it as an old retro games machine but to crap on about it is useless.
