I have downloaded <Lost files of Sherlock Holmes: Case of Rose Tattoo" from somewhere else. Got problems in setting up/installing. I successfully unzip the files, then use DOSBOX, mount the drive and then run HOLMES2.COM/BAT. However it just says "In order to take full advantage of your computer, you must first run INSTALL to configure the game for your machine".

So I followed the instruction and run INSTALL. Then it showed "FATAL error: couldn't open the file install. bmp". My goodness. I got the install.bmp file, how come it didn't work? Couldn't figure out the problem. Is that a problem of compatibility??

did you mount everything correctly ?
some games expect to be in a certain directory.

Well yes, I have mounted all the zip files already. Tried putting them in one directory altogether as well. Still couldn't work.

From the website that I downloaded it (a very common one), it says in the technical details:

CD-rip version (including everything except speech); must be installed in C:\HOLMES and properties of file HOLMES2.SAV changed - by right-clicking in Windows to see properties of file and unclick "read only" attribute.

So I opened a directory C:\holmes and put all those files in. Still coulnd't work.
Can anyone figure out?? I spent >6 hours in downloading the game.

Well if I'm not much mistaking, those files are suppose to be on a CD, so you need to either burn them or mount them as a CD device (might be tricky). I'm not sure if it would work after that either.

Can you (just in case) give me the list of all files (file name and size), so I can compare with my CD?

Oh, it works after burning it onto a CD and then reinstalling it!!!
Marvellous idea!
Thanks!
That's why I got the files but couldn't run it. It's sort of 312MB, and need a CD while playing....
Thanks a lot.

I know this is an ancient ressurrect...

HOWEVER.
I was succesful too with copying the files to a cd... My problem now is a crash in the intro scene where i get the message "unable to open the file SPEECH60.lib"

Any clues on what to do?
