Got a little technical problem.
My old cd-rom drive broke couple of weeks ago. I even removed it and opened it but i couldnt find the problem (altought i found the last pieces of "Fallout 2" cd). I just got a new cd-rom drive with 8€. JustLink Compact-disc reWritable 40x12x48x. The problem is,i cant get it work. I plugged it in the computer, the green light is on but... When i put the cd in it, it wont read it. When i click the E drive it says: E is not accesible, the device is not ready. The drive is plugged in right way and computer knows that its there, but wheres the problem? |
did you check the slave/master setting ?
|
I did checked and tried every setting but it still wont work.
|
If the master/slave setting is correct, it should work.
Do you have another cdrom/dvdrom in the box as well? or is this the only one? |
It seems that your motherboard have some problem with its controller... have you tried a different EIDE (or SATA...) plug?
|
I doubt it's the motherboard's fault, unless it's more than 7 years old.
The one I have is 2000 technology and has no problem with my CDRW in E: and DVDRW in F: |
@Nikson-This is the only one
@Quint-Do you mean that i have to buy new plugs and stuff? What about the tiny hole thats on the cd-drive? |
Well, not all the motherboards come perfect... Just a little overcurrent can burn some not-perfect-component...
I hope this is not the problem. @TC: If a circuit on the MoBo is fried... should be a problem to repair it... I suggest you to try to use other cables to connect the drive and connect it in other plugs... |

If this CDROM is the only one, then just have a look at what master/slave setting your old one was, if you haven't thrown it away yet. But 95% of the time, the "only" CDROM drive should be set to slave. |

And if your CD drive is alone, maybe you should check the connection cable too. Sometimes when "we" disconnect a drive, "we" pull the cable wrong and it can became damaged. |
