I think Reup really nailed the game in his review. It promises so much but then loses momentum and interest. Maybe, though, for really experienced and dedicated adventurers it would still hold interest and the puzzles wouldn't be so unsolveable.

I agree to the last statement.
Certain puzzles are insanely difficult.

See, now personally, I really like having the insanely difficult puzzles because that is very rare now in a lot of games. It was refreshing for me to have a game where I could pound my head into the computer desk again.

Got the game up and running with no problems....except....
I walk around and do nothing but get killed
Know I need a torch in the cave, but cant get to the wood pile from the right side
and can't move beyond that opening area couple of screens
Anyone figured out how to start with this? Figure with a kick start I can figure out the interface.
Could find no help on line either.

There's a help.bat file in the folder of the game. Run it for a couple of hints. However, even with these hints I had the same problem as you. In order to get through the cave you need torches, and the only place to get them is the big pile of wood -which is unreachable or so it seems-

I know this is an old thread, but I came across it while I was looking for help with Armaeth (Google Search).

Since then, I have beaten the game and it's actually pretty good. Or at least I thought so. It gets much better after you leave the first area and is much longer and more involved than I'd expected. I'd say it's sort of a cross between the early King's Quest and the early Quest for Glory games. There is some fighting. Most of the talking you'll do is minimal and with people that intend to kill or rob you unless you manage to knock them out or kill them first. Like the KQ games, some of the death scenes are pretty entertaining. So, save often and let Killian get eaten or otherwise meet his maker, occasionally.

Since I couldn't find anything online, I did resort to the help file a couple of times, but it never contained the info I needed in an easy to find format and sometimes not at all. So I ended up spoiling a few things for myself by even trying to use it. I finally just gave up and quit using it. Once I won, I read it all and discovered that things like how to get the wood for a torch is not even in there. It does tell you how to light one, which is no easy feat in the beginning, but even after reading that, I was still unable to do it the way they suggest.

My final score was 685 out of 725 points, so I missed a few things to do somewhere. I did find all the treasure, though: 13720 out of 13720 gold coins (or the equivalent in treasure).

Anyway, if anyone still needs help, I'll be happy to offer hints for Armaeth. If you flat out want spoilers you'll have to make that plain.

Just as a general help, it IS possible to get to the left side of the woodpile. What you have to know is that whoever wrote this game has their own idea of geographic reality and just because you went one scene to the left does not mean you are actually one scene to the left. If you find the scene with the low cliffs, you can get to the woodpile for torches. (If anyone wants specific directions, let me know.) Good luck!

Hi Burf90

Any chance you could write a walkthrough for Armaeth? Write me.

Mr. Bill [mrbill(at)acd.net]

If he writes one, he can have it hosted on Abandonia quite easily.

Hi Bill

I have never written one and almost never use them, so it would be a looooooooooong time before I'd get one finished. If I ever decide to write one, I'll send you a copy (but don't hold your breath.) However, if you are stuck and need help at any points in the game, I'll be happy to give you hints (or spoilers, if you want them) to get you past the problems.
