I just wanted to open this topic about movies based on video games. I know there are not many of them and i think the first Resident Evil was the only one of notice. What do You guys think ? And which games would you like to see on the silver screen ? I personnaly would be desperate for Diablo 2, staring Wesley Snipes as the Paladin :butcher:

I think they're also making a Max Payne movie, I'm not looking forward to it.

Yeah well, wasn't Matrix an unnofficial Max Payne adaptation ? OOPS ! Sorry it's the other way around. :D

I'm tired of all those movies that use bullet-time, thanks to the matrix there was an entire line of action movies, all using the same green filter, the same trenchcoats and sunglasses and martial arts moves. Beh!

I never found the bullet time thing (with the appropriate panning of the camera) good. Too much "in your face". Not even in The Matrix or IIRC Broken Arrow. As far as I am concerned the only good bullet time scenes in movies have been the ones in Scary Movie and Equilibrium.

Duke Nukem would be nice in a movie, as would be that old delphine adventure about travelling in time for that war (haven't played the game in ages so...)

Yes but they would spend 50 years making it because they would always add in the latest special effects and reshoot scenes with a new cast, weee.

LOL They would probably ask members of the public for short dialogues too :D.

New Line Cinema have the rights to a Deus Ex film. They are a good studio, but I don't really know how well it would go as a film.

It could be great though, definately.

There's already a Sims film, The Truman Show, so don't ask for one of those...

They also made the Tomb Raider movies, remember? Oh god, that was terrible. I think the second one was slightly worse than the first one, but it's hard to tell when you're at that level of quality.

There is also the Wing Commander movie, which is probably one of the worst movie adaptions of a game, ever. It just stinks so badly. It's cast does include Jurgen Prochnow, who is a great actor IMO. It's sad to see actors like him humiliated by having to take crappy roles like that.

And on the subject of Jurgen Prochnow, he was also in House of the Dead, which, now that I think about it, is probably worse that WC. For some reason the director thought it would be cool if small clips from the arcade game was scattered throughout the movie with five minute intervals. And it wasn't even the newest game in the series, as fa as I could tell. It was the oldest one. Damn, that movie stinks!

What about Street Fighter? That one stunk as well. Or Mortal Kombat? Stunk even worse.

Anyway, games I'd like to see as movies? I can't think of any, actually. But I did hear that there are plans to make a Hitman movie. That might sound as an all right idea, except it's going to star Vin Diesel, and I can't stand Vin Diesel.

I think System Shock would make a brilliant sci-fi film. :Brain:

The Blade Runner pc game & film are both really good. :D

Yeah but the game was based on the movie, not the other way around.
