I don't remember much of it. What I do remember was that you fired at robots (can't remember if the were big or not) who walked on three legs. If you destroyed one leg of theirs they would fall (probably big) and burn. I remember the fires were like small triangles dancing. I don't remember if you were an airplane, robot, soldier etc. just the "tripods". I'm not even sure the robots had three legs...

... does this ring a bell? This must have been for the Amiga, if I remember it correctly it was graphically to advanced for the C64.
