I have set up a network at home, but don't have many good games to play on it! One of the PCs is a new dell, but the other is older, upgraded to win98. The older PC can't run much (I got starcraft to run thank heavens) but I'm itching for some multiplayer fun. Where can I get some good networkable games for an old cluncker, and what are some of the best games out there?

TA -total anihilation
duke3d quake. red allert those should run on a pc where starcraft runs on. |
doom 1,2
hexen heretic depends on your specs, but if you have Pentium that is higher then 200 you might try Quake Quake 2 Half life Svencoop (cooperative mod for Half life) Counter-strike (but the older version - i think it was 1.4 ) Maybe some Age of empires or Settlers 3 (depends really on your maschine) Alpha Centauri Heroes of might and magic (if you can wait for others to make their moves) |
Specs are:
Processer: 166mhz Pentium equivalent Ram: currently 32mb but am upgrading it soon to at least 48mb HD: 3gb Thanks for the suggestions and please post any others. Where are the best places to get these games? BTW I think red alert wont play on networks. |
Age of Empire should run fine on that computer.
But I would recomend same as data, Total Annihilation, as one of the best online RTS games. EDIT: I'm not sure if Starsiage: Tribes will run on that computer. You should give it a shot. |
Quake will run, but i recommend doom, as it's awesome in multiplayer
Also try C&C, Civ2(windows required) |
Diablo. :D
Also Diablo Hellfire v1.00 with "multitest" enabled. |
incubation has a neat multiplayer (though it works hotseat as well) but it's better once you've gotten used to it. netstorm is similar, but an incredible multiplayer game which should work on that PC (just about) - it's on the site too :D

Ahem. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooom!
(Getting Doom '95 will make it really easy to set up) Also, if you can find someone to play with regularly: Baldur's Gate Freespace 1 should run fine too - this makes a great game for some co-op. I concur about Incubation; although for a big game (3+ players) you really need something else to do while the other person is taking their turn! Reading slightly more: If you have someone who'll play whenever you want to, then Diablo is great. Otherwise, you'll end up out-levelling them to the extent that it's unplayable in co-op :( Happened to me... |
