I have the same exact problem. I click install and then a few seconds later

Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information might be lost
Please tell Microsoft Abut this Problem.
I really really want to play this game! Any help will be MUCH appreciated. :wall:

try running the setup.exe in win 98 compatibility mode, but I'm sure RA2 is XP-compatible - in fact I've run it on mine before now, although possibly before SP2.

What kind of RA2 are you using, i have the 'Sold Out' version and it works fine?

Might it be a problem with your version, an outdated copy of RA2?

BeefontheBone 09-04-2005 04:30 PM

The version I've had running is my housemate's and I think it's a budget version released more recently than the original. but surely RA2 is more recent than XP?

I don't know. I have SP2, and RA2 installs just fine. I've never gotten a white screen. You should probably check the condition of the CD-rom. If it is damaged, then it might not install. I tried the same thing with RA1 on Windows XP, and gave me a compatibility problem. When I changed the compatibility, it installed, but when I play the damaged Soviet CD, it crashes. What you might want to do is just install RA2 on another WinXP computer if you can. Just curious to know, what are the tech specs of the computer itself. It might be more of a hardware problem, but I don't know why...also, you may want to try using another one of your RA2 cds. There is two in each case so... welp, I've done the best I can. I installed an old version of Tiberian Sun on my computer and it installed perfectly fine so... anyways, just a suggestion.
