Does anyone know what view LucasArts exactly has of abandonware? It is mentioned so often in the forums, but no one ever says what this view really is. I've noticed some of the older adventures are available on the site, some are not. But what about other LucasFilm games? I think of Their finest hour: Battle over Britain for example, which was one of the best flight simulations for it's time. Are they abandonware or not?

a very dim view. their attack-lawyers even had a go at scumm vm which didnt even infringe their IP

as long as classic lucasarts game are still being sold on their website, i assume
they will deny making them abandonware. i think it's only a matter of time, but at present we have to accept the situation as it is...sadly! |
Problem is that not all are sold, and even if they are, they won't ship them to Europe.
|
In the future they will be abandonned...
Only it takes a while to convince Lucasarts :not_ok: |
Not necessarily. They can, and probably will, continue to sell and support their old titles until the "END OF TIME!".
Besides, why not just buy the damn games? If they don't want people getting them for free, and they sell them at reasonable prices from their own site, why not just buy them or go without? As for the European thing, seeing as how they have corp. offices in almost every major European country, I think you can get around the shipping thing rather easily... |

Just wanted to state this. Many people have been complaining about us not putting Monkey Island 1 & 2 on the site. The old definition of abandonware has been: 1. No-one sells the game! 2. No-one supports the game! Monkey Island 1 & 2 fits within these parameters, however... This is not a very good description, that is why we use this model: 1. No-one sells the game! 2. No-one supports the game! 3. No-one will get offended or angry by us hosting the game! LucasArts would kick our a$$ from here to eternity for hosting the games, thus they are not abandonware. |
I thought we had MI1 here...
And, BTW, can't Kosta just ask them for permission? Or this was already tried and failed? |
Both games are reviewed and screenshotted:
http://www.abandonia.com/genre.php?search=monkey+island But we don't offer any of them. Both have BUY-links. Permission asking would be my job. I am trying to get a permission, but Lucas is Lucas. Expect the permission to arrive in 2078! :ok: |
Heh no kidding, looks like they want to hang on their oldie titles for as long as they possibily can.
