Historic

The history the coffee starts in the northern Africa, not far from the pyramids of Gizeh (Egypt). The first written mention of coffee was made by the Arabic doctor Rhazes, mentions in the year 940 a.d. The earliest coffee was planted in Ethiopia, which belonged to Yemen in the southern Arabia, where for the first time around 1200 a.d. the rust of Coffeebeans resulted. The drink became popularly with the whirling dervishes, which drank it, to get power for their lengthy dances. In the fifteenth century coffee was brought to Mecca, center the islamic world. Coffeehouses developed there and moslim pilgrims spread news of this wonderful fortifier in the entire islamic empire, including Spain, Egypt, Iran, and Turkey. 1643 in Paris the first coffeehouse of Europe was founded, Oxford 1650 and London 1652 followed. I don't really like it, don't have the need for it, and besides it's little unhealthily to drink it. So, "never". ;)

I don't drink cofee, i don't smoke, and i don't do drugs.It's not healthy! I do like beer and cappucino, and hot chocolate though :whistle:

And if you would check the inner life of your organism, you would become pretty shocked...

That is why I do not do that :)

Come on, live a little! :ok:
Going straight edge all the way is a total bore!!! :not_ok:

Sure, coffee might not be good for you in certain respects, but without it, I cease to function. Besides, there's a quality of life issue too - I could cease every activity that might be branded as "unhealthy", and be bored, unhappy and lacking a certain zing that coffee puts in my step.

Besides, enjoying a few cups of cha over a day is probably waaaay healthier than spending 8 to 12 hours a day hunched over a keyboard staring at a computer monitor. Lesser of two evils. And it tastes great.

Mind you, I also smoke. I have a friend who gave up last year, and he goes on and on about how much better he feels for it. However, he's pretty much doubled his bodyweight since he gave up and he was never a skinny lad in the first place. Now he breaks a sweat and needs a little lie-down when he climbs a flight of stairs.

I reckon all good things in moderation can improve the quality of day-to-day life. (Except for smoking, which is a terrible habit, but so hard to kick, so hard...).

I don't think I'm bored because I don't drink coffee. Neither I am because I don't smoke it drink or use drugs. They wouldn't make my life more interesting, after all. Only make it to a nightmare with time, in case of alc and drugs, and stop me enjoying the live as I do without it, in case of coffee.

In case of smoking, @Mardi-Gras, I doubt the stop of smoking caused him to gather more weight. Rather wrong nutrition (or if it's the wrong word, simply eating wrong food ) or just too much eating, which indeed can bring you quite a heavy load of weight quite fast. But most of all - little movement.
If you say he doubled his weight because he stopped smoking, yes, smoking lessened his appetite, I would say. But when his appetite is so big, it's simple to adjust it again - more food - more burning of it through using it's effects up with physical work again. ;)

Some people always focus on the negative..... :angel:

pros and cons;

Pros;
a)coffee is known to reduce the strain caused from BRONCHIAL ASTHMA, headaches. and mentral cramping.
b)Organic coffee is known to contain as much as 4x's the antioxidants than most natural beverages.

Quote:

Just like rust on a car, oxidation can cause damage to cells and may contribute to aging.

Antioxidants help prevent oxidation, may help increase immune function and possibly decrease risk of infection and cancer. Antioxidants exist as vitamins, minerals and other compounds in foods.

A few of the better known antioxidants include carotenoids--the substance that gives fruits and vegetables their deep rich colors. Apricots, broccoli, pumpkin, cantaloupes, spinach and sweet potatoes, are some good choices in addition to lycopene in tomatoes. Vitamin C and E are also good antioxidants, as well as, magnesium, copper and zinc.

c) Coffee has been known to raise Mental function as high as 28% in cases where coffee is used moderatly.
d) Coffee alleviates the stymptoms of depression among 36% of the Worlds population.
e) Reduces the risk of kidney stones and similar calcination of the internal organs.
f) Reduces the risk of stomach and colon specific cancers.
ect...ect...ect...

cons;
a) Pregnant women should exercise caution when using coffee. May slow fetal development.
B) Robs the body of Calcium deposits which MAY result in loss of bone mass. This is only true in cases of excessive indulgence.
c) Can cause anxiety in some people. Those people are advised to stop drinking it.
d) Can interact with the assimilation of SOME medications. (i.e. anti-depressants)
e) Is known to lower Vitamin levels in the body, but taking a daily multivitamin can counteract this largely.
f) Stains your teeth. *ick*

Now.... as you can see... i've been fair and added an equal number of pros and cons.

I've dropped, rolled, smoked, toked, and drank..... we learn from it, and move ahead. I can still spell my name, and find in no way, to be crippled from it. I maintain with ease a 4.0 in college, and im still able to comprehend both abstract and complex concepts and diversions. It is excessive abuse and human ignorance that ruins things.

Your gonna die anyway, just live in moderation.

Thanks for the activity on my thread! You're all great! :ok:

No offense meant to anyone, but i like to think that i can be "awake" all time, without any drink ;)
Yes cappucino does contain coffeine, but it's hardly noticeable(in taste i mean).As for hot chocolate... are you sure it contains coffeine?!
