Point and click game where you played as a monkey?
 

I remember having a demo of it way back when in the 486 days. It was a DOS game, and I remember it had EGA level graphics. The only puzzle I really remember was that as a monkey, you had to escape your cage so you plugged up a sink for some reason to escape - maybe it made the zookeeper come in and then you escaped? I can't really remember. I think it only had sound effects and no music, if it even had SFX.

The perspective was the standard "sideways view at a slight angle" you'd see in stuff like King's Quest or Monkey Island.

Sounds like Runaway.

Hmm, I don't think this is it... But maybe it is, I can't really be sure after all these years. I do remember the graphics being WAY worse though...

Runaway is labeled as a "test version" (i.e. demo), a side-view adventure game in which you control a monkey. You escape the cage by plugging up a "sink" (with the banana) so that the zookeeper comes by and you can swipe his key to the cage. Other than your recollection of EGA graphics, the game elements match your description so closely that if Runaway is not exactly the game you remember then perhaps it is a remake with VGA graphics. In any case, I wish you good luck in finding the game you seek.
