Anyone feel like taking on the elite game and remaking / upgrading it ?

There have been several remakes - enhancements but how about an open source version of our old favourite space sim / trading game - any takers how about missions and perhaps more ships and more planets and perhaps more alien ships.

is this a program in C++ or something else i might even consider playing with the source code myself.
