Vista and Simfarm
Hi,
I clicked the link for the Vista Full Screen Problems in the "Look Here First" sticky, but it just took me back to the main forum page... So, I just downloaded Simfarm, I extracted the file and everytime I try to install it, it comes up with a small screen with black background and then when I press a key, it says "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application". I have Vista, if you didn't gather that from the title. Can I make this work?? Am I doing something wrong? |
Sorry about that link, it was broken when the forum has been upgraded.
There are several topics on the subject: http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=14152 http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=17209 http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=16814 http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=13474 |
Thanks for that!

Another thing, I followed the directions to use Vista's "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" video driver, but now I can't change it back! The directions say to do the same thing, but let let Windows automatically install the appropriate software for your system. However, that option isn't available. After I get to the Driver tab, there's no longer an option to Update Driver or anything.
Please tell me I'm not stuck like this... |
It's ok, I worked it out

and what's was the problem? so anyone who has the same knows in future
|
I'd really like to know if these fullscreen problems happen only with the most obsolete resolutions (320x200 and 640x400) and if they go away if you use 640x480 for example. I don't have Vista here.

simfarm install shortcut

I thought of an easier way to get simfarm installed without having to change drivers. Do a forced shut down of the PC, then restart in SAFEMODE, no network. Open the command line screen. insert disk select to a: drive a: The type install. When it gets to the sound cards, select what ever you want, it will fail. If disk 2 fails to read, let it sir until the error message in pink comes up. pull disk, reinsert, and hit continue. that should catch it. Finish install, pull disk from drive, then reboot normally. Do a quick test in dosbox, then exit game, and in dosbox again, type in install and do the sound card. It will work then. Easy. Enjoy. PS, this might well work with just about any of the older games that require the full screen. |
Another Little hint for all of us Visties out there, the easiest way to run games in fullscreen in DOSBox. Im on vista and i've never had any trouble with this.
