Ultima 7 issues

I can't get either the first part or the second part to work.

It gets after sound (I choose none because I don't have any of those, haha), and then it tells me I've got some kind of protected system?

It gives me the option to, "any key to continue, Esc to quit"

I press enter, and then it gives me the option to create a bootable disk.

Overall, I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.

As far as protective software, I've got AVG and I'm running this on Windows XP.

I downloaded both Exult and DOSbox, just in case, haha. I'm nearly a total newb.

The error message probably said something about "Protected Mode". Which doesn't have anything to do with viruses or antivirus programs. LOL

Anyway, you have to run it in either DOSBox or Exult. Not in plain Windows, cause that simply aint gonna work.

Okay.

Well, tried Exult. It says it doesn't detect the Ultima 7 files. I think probably because I haven't installed them yet. :P

That's where I'm having the issue. I can't get it installed..

It's giving me the Protected Mode thing.

So, are you saying start up DOSbox, and then try to install it from there..?

I have this all in a zip file thing, so I'm trying to install it from my desktop.

install = unpack?

The Fifth Horseman 02-11-2008 05:43 AM

LOL
... You have to unpack the game first. It won't run from inside a ZIP. :p

Yups.

Is there a quick, simple way that I could do this, or is there a manual I have to read?

I'm not huge on the reading part, haha.

It's all unpacked. That's not the problem. :P

A beginner's guide to DOSBox should get you up to speed in no time. :)

The guide has been a whole ton of help, but I'm having one problem, with Norton Commander.

I get to this step:

CD ncinst
install

And it's not letting me install it.
