hi all

I'm having some problems running this game and I was wondering if any one might be able to advise because I have search all over the net and cant seem to find a solution

ok I installed MAX with a full install so that it runs completely off of the hard drive I then applied the 1.04 patch that comes on the disk this is supposed to fix the various crashes and lockups but it hasn't and I'm still having problems

The first problem is the sound although the sound works ok its some what choppy this is annoying but not vitally important

second problem is the end turn timer lock up and other miscellaneous lockups and freezes this is the real problem and the one I really want to work out because its making the game unplayable because I cant get it to change turn or it freezes when the computer has his turn

the third problem I'm having is this annoying intermittent crash some sort of error is displayed on screen for a few seconds and then the dos box close and I'm left looking at the desktop

anyone have any experience solving these problems because I cant seem to find a solution

Try using the Compatibility Modes.

And what's that post supposed to mean?

Well for starters, I wonder how the hell you managed to run the game on windows at all??? It doesn't even start, all I see is DOS shell or something like that, the screen turns black and back to windows.
I tried to change the compatibility and still nothing.

Plz help me if you can…

LOL, the sequel works only on Win95 and when I changed the compatibility - it worked. It should work for the prequel too.

Is MAX supposed to work under Windows in the first place, or was it made for DOS?

It is a DOS game. I have yet to get it to work on any windows besides this old old compaq we have sitting around. I think it has windows 98. From what I hear if you download a program called DOSbox you can get it to run fine, with some minor sound glitches (looping) Compatability (unless you are one lucky bastard) modes dont work on it.

That explains quite a lot.
Very few DOS games work even on Win 9x, with newer versions of Windoze that gets even worse.

If DosBox helps to run it, you might also try VDMSound (which doesn't take as much resources, though doesn't provide as complete emulation either)
