I was debating whether this should go in this forum or programming because I'm not sure what it would entail, but I have a question I was hoping some techno guru could help me solve.

I'm running Windows XP, so I have the little icon tray in the bottom right hand corner. I know after awhile some of them become hidden, and you can set it up so that some are always hidden. Is there a way to make a program NOT go to the bar?

I ask because I've been using bit-torrent lately, and whenever my parents see the little black ball in the corner of the screen they close it, claiming it makes the computer run funny. Is there a way for me to minimize the program, and have it just...disappear, but still be running in the background? So no little dot in the corner, but if I click to launch it from the start menu it will bring up the downloader? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

First: if your parents tells you that it's making your computer "run funny", they are probably right. Bit-Torent can take a lot of ressource, especially if your downloading and uploading limits are not set. Try to lower them, at the very least it should make their internet surfing faster since the computer won't always be at the limit.

Second, you can go in the options like you said and set it so it's always hidden. If they open the icon bar they'll see it running, but if they don't they won't notice.

Third, there is options in Bit-Torrent to decide what happen when you minimize the program. I know there is one option to remove the icon when the program is maximized, but I removed it because it was buggy (the icon bar never colapsed back whenever it happened). There is 3 options, did you try experimenting with them?

Yeah, I already set the downloading and uploading limits to give better surfing time. And I know it can slow down the computer, but it doesn't as much as they say. They always leave Outlook Express and Real Player open, and those lag everything waaaaaay down when they go idle.

And no, there is no option to remove the icon when it's maximized, it must have been removed in the newer versions.

-_-...

@reamulus

there s a program "Application Manager"
http://users.cybercity.dk/~bcc22142/programs.htm
while application is visible on main panel you can 'hide' it, not while it's on system tray though. so you'll have to hide it while it's not minimised to sysTray
