I need help. I want to learn how to make any game run off of a hard drive. The thing is, I have a old computer, and learning how to do this would help in the performance of my games. And I know there's a way other than buy a program that creates virtual drives for you. How do I know this is possible? Because I downloaded BLOOD a few months ago, and it should be running off of a cd, but it isn't (by the way, if you haven't tried BLOOD yet and you like FPS, then download it. And even if you don't like FPS, this might be the game that will change your mind about the genre!) PLease help, and thank you for your time.

In some cases you might try using a No-Cd crack.
Or try copying the content of the CD directly to your hard drive.
There are free image drives around (for Windows that would be VirtualCloneDrive or Alcohol 120%) and I remember hearing about a virtual drive program for DOS somwhere on Abandonia's forums as well.

Moved to Technical since this have nothing to do with troubleshooting.

No CD crasks edting the autorun file?

What you do with Alcohol 120% is that you create the image of the disc and then load it into the virtual drive that is being emulated. And there you go... game running smooth ;)

This is all fine and dandy, but I think the problem here is how to make DOS games run without CDs. Sometimes copying the CD contents to your hard-drive and then modifying some .INI files works, or you could opt for a DOS-based cd emulator. I'll try and find something like this, and I'll post back here.

I'm pretty certain there are some around, remember at least one being mentioned somwhere on Abandonia.
