I am using XP and have problem to deal with sound config when installing X-Com2.
I have tried both Dosbox and VDMSound but still cannot play the game
I am using SoundMAX Intergrated Digital Audio and the IRQ=17

after download the game, I unzip and then install it.

when carry out sound config, it shows lot of choice like soundblaster, soundblaster pro.....etc. I don't what should i choose for base port, irq, dma, sound channels...

I don't know if you need to install it at all.
I think all of the games on AB are packed so that you just need to unpack them and they are playable.

Referring you Prob:
DosBox emulates you a sound environment (makes your PC pretend there would be one) so you can configurate in DosBox the soundblaster with the standard values.

These would be with Soundblaster Pro or 16: 220H, IRQ:7, DMA:1

That should work. :ok:

You can check (and also change) the settings emulated by DosBox in the config file (dosbox.conf). Changing the emulated soundcard is left to your own choice and depends on personal preferences (I recommend "sbpro2" here), while 220H IRQ7 DMA1 should be left as they are unless your games experience problems when using these settings.

when i run dosbox, go to the folder where i installed the game and enter the exe file : terror and the screen is printing "The system cannot find the path specified"

Is that directory correctly mounted?
Are you certain the filename you are trying to run is correct?

Please tell us exactly what commands did you put in the autoexec section of DosBox.conf (if any) and what are you entering when you start the emulator. Exact same syntax you were using, please.

As for sound, if you are using VDMSound or DOSBox: make sure you set up the game for Soundblaster or Compatible. Those programs emulate the sound for Soundblaster or Compatible even if you don't actually have a Soundblaster card installed in your tower. :)

Firstly, for be sure X-Com 2 = X-Com TFTD.

Try by selecting a lower quality sound configuration, it happens by example with soundblaster pro, even having the correct card and controllers the chance of fail is greater than using any other sondblaster. For base port, irq, dma, sound channels you should get a defaullt setting.

I have installed both Dosbox and VDMSound and download X-com2 and X-com3.
It is fine for running X-com3 with VDMSound but I still can’t play X-com2 with Dosbox or VDMSound.

Here is my steps for installing the game and please advise what had I did wrong.

a. download VDMSound and Dosbox and install them
b. download games and unzip to harddisk c:\X-Com
c. setup Dosbox.conf and type “mount c c:\X-Com” under the [autoexec] and save.
d. run Dosbox and run file install.exe
e. Game installation window shows up and follow instruction to install game into harddisk c:\MPS\TFTD [actually is installed in c:\X-Com\MPS\TFTD as mounted c drive to c:\X-Com]
f. carry out sound config and enter the default 220H IRQ7 DMA1 Sound channel:4 [press enter on the highlighted items]
g. exit installation and go back to c:\MPS\TFTD
h. run file terror.exe
i. computer response very slow and even I press ctrl+F12 doesn’t speed up, it seems some programme is looping
