Total Annihilation [GoG]

total annihilation is one of my favorite games...
it is quite old, but is it still being sold?
i dont know..

Eagle of Fire 16-11-2004 03:39 AM

Even if it was not being sold the size of the game might be a problem. We should investigate further if we were to consider adding it to the list.

wormpaul 16-11-2004 08:45 AM

I think it's still sold..

Found it last at a internet site...

Omuletzu 16-11-2004 11:42 AM

Yes i also think it's still being sold

Rogue 16-11-2004 12:22 PM

They sell the game in stores here. And also it's 2 CD game.

Game it self is my favorite RTS.

Timpsi 18-11-2004 02:39 PM

$10 at http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/totalannpr.htm

Wahoo 25-01-2005 04:44 PM

Total annihilation in my mind was one of the best strategy games of its type, it kept me busy for hours, the gameplay lasts a long time, and with so many different units to download and things to try, it doens't get boring fast for me.

So, can anyone help put it on here? i hope it isn't too big :(

I have the cd but i don't know anything about how to get in on here :(

Rogue 25-01-2005 05:10 PM

What do you mean by this: "I have the cd but i don't know anything about how to get in on here"?

TA is two CD, which is over 1 GB of files. I don't believe it will be soon on the site. (unless someone rips music from the game, but then it's not the same expiriance)

I installed game trough win98, and then just made copy of game folder to XP. (as I was unable to install it directly from XP)

Wahoo 25-01-2005 05:58 PM

i have it on one cd here, and yes, that includes both campaigns and multiplayer stuff.

Rogue 25-01-2005 06:12 PM

with the music or without the music?

I purchased game twice :) and both versions were on 2 cds.

Wahoo 25-01-2005 06:14 PM

with music and cinematics too

The Niles 25-01-2005 06:38 PM

I have it as well and it also commes on two CD's for me. Not sure those CD's are full though. They are two different campaigns and there is not that much info there.

Not sure if the game is abandoned. I think it is still sold and if so this discussion is accademic.

Rogue 25-01-2005 06:57 PM

I have not seen it for a long time in local computer/games shops. Not sure if online stores have the game. But even if they do, game is still to big for site.

I got both extension packs (that was reason I bought it second time, as it was complete game, with official strategu guide and both extension packs).

Great game, my favorite RTS.

Wael 25-01-2005 07:01 PM

Sold

The Niles 25-01-2005 07:03 PM

Yes it is a great game. I don't have the expansion packs but the vanilla TA is still great. One of the only RTS games I like. I do think TA: Kingdoms is even better. The units there are better balanced and more diverse.

Rogue 25-01-2005 07:13 PM

I did not like TA Kingdom, not sure why. I played couple levels, and then put CD a side...

What happend to CaveDog?

Sold to Atari?

Wahoo 25-01-2005 08:28 PM

yeah atari bought them.

Still if ta is being sold there then civ 2 should be taken off this site also as that is still being sold.

looks like gt-interactive also links to the atari website.

Well, i know for a fact that the game was being sold by "sold out gaming" before, i checked their website and it is no longer on their list, so i assume therefore it is completely abandonned.

wormpaul 26-01-2005 10:36 AM

Great game..

But still sold :not_ok:

dishwasherlove 26-01-2005 10:54 AM

Chris Taylor, the man behind TA is making another RTS game. Should be the spiritual successor.

Titan 26-01-2005 01:33 PM

TA: CD1 + CD2 = 554 MB
The Expantion CC = 364 MB

Those are the rips i've made myself of it.
It's w/o music.

Anyway, waaaaaay too big.

And still sold on budget..

goblins 27-01-2005 02:41 AM

still sold at my local CD store. Though if and when it is finally abandoned (perhaps another 2 yeras or so) then it would be good to see it on here.

Yes...

Still one of the best (isnt the best??) strategy game ever made :ok:

The Levitating Nun 29-01-2005 12:20 PM

Is Total Annihilation kingdoms abandoned yet? I played the demo of it and enjoyed it, anyone know what size it is, if it's small enough can we have it on the site?

Wael 29-01-2005 12:30 PM

Sold

The Levitating Nun 29-01-2005 12:43 PM

ah ok, cheers for the link wael

PrejudiceSucks 23-03-2005 06:33 PM

Once again, CDAccess pisses on the abandonware scene from a great height.

I've been looking at other requested games and it would seem that CDAccess are getting a bit cheeky.

Top example: Nuclear Strike - About 10yrs old - $28.95!

I'm a Brit and even here that's like 20ish quid! BOOO! HISS!

I really hope that Total Annihilation does get abandoned soon, especially the addon packs (near impossible to find, much to my displeasure) as I snapped the disks by accident when I knelt down to pick up a 20 pence piece in my room! (they were in my pocket)

Rogue 23-03-2005 07:15 PM

I have them, and I still prefer TA over any other RTS. As for Core Contigancy (or what's else is called) extension, I never menaged to complete first mission. (that big robot destroyed me every time)

Also for TA Kingdoms I paid 20 bucks at the time game came out. This price is really strange...

BeefontheBone 23-03-2005 07:35 PM

TA:K was a bit naff, which was a huge disappointment for me - the original was the first game I ever really found myself looking forward to before it came out (what? 3D? lemme see that!). I have also managed to lose (or lend and never get returned) my TA CD on at least 2 occasions, and also both expansion packs at one point, which I still haven't managed to recover/replace :(

PrejudiceSucks 25-03-2005 01:39 PM

The original TA is a classic and needs to be honoured as such on this site. CDAccess is the only place I have seen that sells it, and they are taking the piss at that price.

What we need is a copy of TA and all of its expansion packs, that would be great.

Thermodynamics 29-03-2005 09:40 PM

For those who are noting the size of the game as being much too large-
All of the music is in standard audio format (I play the CD's in my car occasionally), which is obviously very compressible. Could the music be converted to mp3 and the game engine tweaked to play it?

PrejudiceSucks 05-04-2005 12:03 PM

Good question, but we don't want warez talk.

moogle 26-07-2005 03:02 AM

This was a strategy game made buy the same guy who did Dungeon Siege (I think :tai: ) Its kinda old, I'm not sure how much exactly, I was just wnderin if its abandonware.

efthimios 26-07-2005 06:27 AM

Oh my, you are young, aren't you? :D

Cavedog is dead but I don't know about the rights for it.

And yes, it is the same guy behind it and Dungeon Siege.

Eagle of Fire 26-07-2005 06:30 AM

Total Anihilation is far from being an "old" game and I really doubt it to be abandonware.

Danny252 26-07-2005 09:38 AM

Not sold unless its second hand, I can bet. But its is WAY too big for abandonia, at 261 MB on my pc with both expansion packs. The designer for the game is making a new one, Supreme commander, which looks good...

a1s 26-07-2005 10:13 AM

the game was from 1997, and as far as I know all righrts to Cavedog games now belong to Atari. that's in ESA (I think...).

Swiebertje13 26-07-2005 05:23 PM

Still sold.

Here's a buy-link:
http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/totalannpr.htm

moogle 26-07-2005 06:24 PM

Ya I'm young, hear me roar. Ya the new one looks cool, read an article about it, thanks guys though, I wasn't sure.... :wall:

dragonLancer 24-10-2005 01:58 AM

I remember playing this at my friends house.. its called Total Annihilation and its a RTS but its super fun i know that its kinda old now so im pretty sure you might be able to get it as AW but you never know :) j/w thats all! :D

Xgamer4 24-10-2005 02:00 AM

Still being sold:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/window...l-annihilation

Very cheaply, yes, but it is still being sold.

moogle 24-10-2005 03:20 AM

I already suggested it ;) and got utterly SHUT DOWN!
LOL

Nikson 24-10-2005 06:50 AM

TA is still supported for online play by Gamespy and there's always servers running and people in the lobby.
There's even planetTA.com for chrissakes! It's nowhere near abandoned.

BeefontheBone 24-10-2005 09:40 AM

It's also huge - 2CDs. Just buy it, you won't regret it. If you can get the expansion pack(s) you're onto even more of a winner.

Blood-Pigggy 24-10-2005 07:17 PM

I own TA and all the expansions, you can still buy cheap 5 dollar copies at Bestbuy, or some software store wherever you live.

Nikson 25-10-2005 12:44 AM

I own it as well, and the local book/game exchange shop has it for $7 AU (or $4.50 US)

PrejudiceSucks 25-10-2005 11:22 AM

Argh it's bloody hard to find in the UK, but yeah, there are copies around. It's the same with Fallout and its sequels.

Bradley 25-10-2005 08:27 PM

i've got all of the TA's

Burger Meister 03-08-2006 02:26 PM

Total Annihilation [SOLD] [Atari]

I asked the guys at Classic Gaming and they said it's neither ESA or Solid... I have the old ISO cds from when I bought it when I was younger. If you want I can upload a RIP or the ISOs, your choice. I also have the Core Contingency Expansion Pack.

The Fifth Horseman 03-08-2006 03:59 PM

These "guys at Classic Gaming" are completely wrong.

Total annihilation - GT Interactive - 1997.

GT Interactive is a subsidiary company of Atari, thus covered by ESA.

Furthermore, GT Interactive falls under "10 years rule", which means this game will be "safe" somwhere around 2008.

Given the size you mentioned, it wold be far too big for the site anyway.

Not sure whether it's sold or not, though that may be likely.

guesst 03-08-2006 05:19 PM

5thHM is correct. As much as we'd love to host this awesome game it too big for the site (with rare exceptions CD games are not hosted on Abandonia), is less than 10 years old, and yes ESA protected.

It's too back, tho. A groundbreaking RTS if ever there was one.

Burger Meister 03-08-2006 05:38 PM

If it wasn't ESA protected I could make a cd rip... it'd be around 100mb

guesst 03-08-2006 06:05 PM

Well, go ahead and do that, but just hold on to it. In another few years we'll be able to host it. Who knows, maybe by then we'll be hosting bigger games!

Burger Meister 03-08-2006 07:27 PM

LOL a few years.

Titan 04-08-2006 01:07 AM

Yeah... i have the Original With the hard-box along with the expantion ALSo in Hard-box.. and maaan.. the expantion was worth the money just because of that box.. got it on display :)

Anyone want me to take pictures?

Burger Meister 04-08-2006 01:45 AM

Sure, I don't have boxes, I only have cd cases... my mom always throws out my boxes

Tom Henrik 04-08-2006 09:35 AM

Tell your mom to stop that. She is throwing away a fortune. Gameboxes are collectibles, and can sell for an awful lot just a few years into the future.

For instance, Taikara has a complete set of Sierra Quest boxes in prime condition, along with every manual and even a 300+ pages King's Quest "player's guide". If she were to sell that (something I hope she won't :P) she could make several thousand dollars on them - and the games are just a bit over 20 years old ;)

So the bottom line is: Tell your mom that she is throwing away your college money. Parents don't really know the value of computer stuff, so you need to inform them.

Titan 04-08-2006 11:20 AM

Time for some B0x-pr0n!
This little photo-session just made me wanna play it right away :)

The TA-box has the name in raised gold print, so you can feel the name on the box :)
http://www.abandonia.com/~titan/TA2.JPG
Same on the back-side, also raised.
http://www.abandonia.com/~titan/TA3.JPG
The Expantion-box has a double-front, that folds open, and i just sooo nice.
http://www.abandonia.com/~titan/TA4.JPG
Front+back of expantion.
http://www.abandonia.com/~titan/TA1.JPG

AND... the most important part, the CD's have been used ONCE.. for the ripping, as i do with all my games.

Data 04-08-2006 12:26 PM

Great pictures!
I have a different box. (a replay version).
I do have the original TA kingdoms box though. But that wasn't as much fun as the prequel

Burger Meister 04-08-2006 06:33 PM

I have TA Kingdoms Mint condition cd & cd case... box is gone

faralar 05-08-2006 09:53 AM

Did anyone know that ron gilbert was involved in TA, that makes the game even better!

Burger Meister 05-08-2006 10:29 PM

Would I be able to ask a question such as who is ron gilbert?

faralar 06-08-2006 11:50 AM

He's a guy who used to work at Lucasarts and is the man behind the first two monkey island games. The guy has done more for adventure gaming than most other developers combined, among other things he recruited Tim Shaeffer (the guy behind full trottle, grim fandango and psychonauts).

Google is your friend.

Moby Games is your friend.

Heck, wiki is even your friend.

www.grumpygamer.com is Ron Gilbert's blog, BTW.

Danny252 07-08-2006 08:59 AM

Anyone got the frigging massive Players Guide? I spent many happy hours reading that when I was young... And then pummelling the AI.

And TA is still me and my friends favourite game to play on the LAN when they come round. When it works, LOL...

Also, anyone heard of the new game, Supreme Commander from one (or is it more?) of the makers of TA?

Burger Meister 08-08-2006 12:19 AM

I'd like that Players Guide too!

Swiebertje13 13-08-2006 05:44 PM

Just to add.

TA is still sold:
http://bigdaddysoftware.com/toan.html

Tom Henrik 13-08-2006 07:31 PM

Thank you. I added the game in the AW list with the proper buy link :)

BeefontheBone 13-08-2006 07:34 PM

Supreme Commander looks ace. Chris Whatsisface was the lead designer on TA IIRC, and it's shaping up to be a worthy sequel by the looks of it.

Dave 20-07-2007 08:52 AM

Total Annihilation (1997) by GT Interactive Software
Still Sold.

Total Annihilation - Abandonware?

I've read about it on Wiki, is it true?

TotalAnarchy 16-05-2009 09:51 AM

The rights to the Total Annihilation series is supposedly in the hands of Atari, though.

That's why it's completely [SOLD] Amazon, Atari Store UK and Gamesplanet
