[marko river] Operation Inner-Space

Hi everyone,

So a game that I played in the 1990s (probably from a shareware disc) on Windows 95 recently popped into my head and its been bugging me because the way it's level structure is set up is so unusual.

You need to take over your actual computer's file system, with every file on your computer being a level (I guess randomly generated) to beat. The gameplay itself is top-down where your spaceship and those of allies need to blow up the opposing spaceships to win. I think you could buy upgrades for your ship between levels but don't remember much else.

Does anyone know what it might be?

Operation Inner Space, definitely.

What status of the game, BTW? It sells when I checked last time... but it was ten years ago.

Operation: Inner Space is the game! Thank you for the replies.

Interestingly, it does seem to still be supported and sold by its developers. I always smile when I see this - it feels like an older and gentler era of little independent software companies.

Thank you Frodo for the link to Virus too - the other thing I was wondering was if any other games had used a similar "file system as levels" mechanic.

Wow! I never thought I would see the three Living Computers aka Mentat :braindead: here.

• The Grand Mentat marko River (........) has great powers over infinitesimal objects and seeks solutions and answers at subatomic levels... :zip:;

• The Grandmaster Spectre-man :borg: uses his spectral vision in search of answers through spectral waves;

Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother (Mi)Lady of the Rings :frodo: uses her precious (Gollum! Gollum!) information and the Ring of Knowledge to search for answers. After all, Knowledge is Power! It reminds me of Mandarin, archenemy of Iron Man, who had 10 power rings, and each ring has a different power and is worn on a specific finger.

Curiously, when those Living Computers come together, they have the incredible ability to combine, merging into the most powerful super computer in the world called Computron.

Two ways of merging to form Combiner / Gestalt
