Back on my Windows 98 computer, I came across a shareware version of this one particular strategy game that had wind-up toys. They all had unique abilities like chickens would lay eggs with bombs in them and so forth. You would choose your toys from the toybox (duh) and could change them out at anytime

The game itself from what I recall was complete prerended in a 2.5D, third person style akin to DKC. It also had sound effects for all the toys, but no music from what I can recall

That'd be Gearheads. Quite a unique little game :)
